Tasting This has been in the news lately - basically there is a way people are able to watch your searches (I don't know how it's being done, but it is). ICANN let's you buy a domain, then "return" it free of charge within 5 days - domain tasting it's called. So spammers catch the names you search for, grab the domains for free, point them to a link page with ads from google, and return it at the end of the trial date. A few scripts and the cost to do this is zero and they do it on a large scale (GoDaddy said of 55 Million domains registered last year, only about 4 Mil were kept - the rest (51 million) we returned).

Rather than fix the problem (keep search private, remove tasting) NetSol's fix was to buy the domain you just searched for to keep others from buying it - of course this means you can't search NetSol and then bug with GoDaddy.

Oh, and google domain kiting - it's possible to get a domain, cancel within the 5 days, and register it again for another free 5 days... rinse, lather, repeat.

Mmm tasty. Yep, should've been checking slashdot last week. Would've saved you a couple bucks. NetSol knows what they're doing is front running, but they consider it protecting their customers from tasters by, you know, tasting.
